EV Maintenance 101

Our dealerships represent some of the world’s most respected carmakers, and some of the most exceptional electric vehicles, such as the Subaru Solterra, Volkswagen ID.4, and the Chevrolet Blazer EV. While our EVs don’t require service as often as their gas-only counterparts, you’ll still have to visit one of our dealerships for EV maintenance regularly. If you’re unsure if your EV is due for service, the techs at your nearest Casey Auto dealership can help.
Tasks Our Technicians Will Handle
Maintaining an EV requires a partnership of sorts between a car’s owner or lessee and our factory-trained, certified technicians. That’s because caring for an EV involves tasks that are best left to our team, and others you can do. By working together, your EV will remain healthy and continue to operate the way it’s designed to.
Frequent inspections are something our technicians will perform to keep your EV in good shape. Your brakes should be inspected annually, while your coolant levels need a once-over every six months or 7,500 miles. It’s advisable to request an inspection of your tires and battery whenever you have your fluid levels checked.
Rotating your tires every 7,500 miles or six months is a task we’ll gladly perform to extend their working lives. We’ll also flush or recharge your battery and cabin heater cooling systems as needed. Similarly, we’ll replace your brake fluid, install new brake pads, and remedy any issues that may compromise your ability to slow or stop your EV.
Things You Can Do
One of the easiest things you can do to maintain your EV is to park in an enclosed or shady area when it’s hot, or in a sheltered and preferably heated space when it’s cold. Visiting one of our Casey parts centers to pick up new windshield wipers and fluid is just as simple. Keeping your EV charged between 30 and 80 percent using Level 2 charging will help keep your battery in working order; save 100% charge and Level 3 DC Fast Chargers for longer road trips.
Some drivers are attracted to our new EVs because they’re well known for being quick off the line. While that’s certainly understandable, aggressive acceleration can negatively influence your battery’s performance. To get the most out of your battery, refrain from accelerating quickly as much as possible.
